LiveBlogging At The AVN Lecture In Perth – Judy Wilyman

by podblack on June 1, 2010

Hi all,

The internet access here is sketchy and I have eight pages of typed transcript already. So, what I’ll post here is the summary from the end of the talk by Judy Wilyman, PhD Candidate Murdoch University. Big, big thanks to Dan, who got me in here despite there being a big asterisk next to his name on the check-in list and it made me go ‘eep’! :)

She wants answers to her questions – and says that despite talking to the WA Gov yesterday (who the introductory spiel points out haven’t turned up tonight), she’s not getting any.

Summary of lecture:

- vaccination is not the main reason for decline in infectious diseases – Wallace, over 100 years ago reported that.

- it is  not prove that ingredients in vaccines are not causing the chronic illness in our kids – and that the vaccinations outweigh the harm – and their evidence by the Dept Health is that they say that vaccinations have controlled disease and therefore we’re more concerned about side effects, but by 1950s in developed countries they were at low risk just naturally.

- Claims that the vaccines are brought in for herd immunity and no disease has been eradicated by herd immunity so don’t do it for herd immunity. If others decided that there’s no harm, then that’s not a good enough excuse.

Therefore says that there is precautionary principle and it’s not good enough.

Wants a new health ethics assumption for the AVN policy that she thinks should be spread and adopted:

The burden of proof of harmless is on the government – not the general public.

We can no longer state is its for the community good when so many vaccinations are being used

This procedure is for healthy individuals – coercive policies are unacceptable if no hard evidence of the harm that requires multiple vaccinations  – and McIntyre said so and there is no need for herd immunity.

You get better community protection if you don’t vaccinate for a disease – you won’t find evidence that lack of vaccination is harmful if you are not looking and she says the government isn’t looking.

She has said at least three times that vaccinations contain mercury.

Now Meryl is talking, so will have to work on transcribing her – hers is called “Influenza vaccination – nothing to sneeze about.”

As usual, lots of lies spun from half-truth.

“vaccination is not the main reason for decline in infectious diseases ”

Operates in conjunction with hygiene and nutrition. Where are the anti-nutritionists? Where are the anti-hygienists? Oh, wait. Meryl questions germ theory, so I guess we know where some of the anti-hygienists are.

“it is not prove that ingredients in vaccines are not causing the chronic illness in our kids”

Two “nots” there. Someone should tell her about the fallacy of proving a negative. Frankly, the point is to prove harm, not disprove it.

“no disease has been eradicated by herd immunity”

Errr… small-fucking-pox? Again, one of those “in conjunction with” half-lies

“Therefore says that there is precautionary principle”

not sure where this is heading from, but I find *using* vaccines to be precautionary. wuh?

“We can no longer state is its for the community good when so many vaccinations are being used”

Non-sequiteur. Needs some serious backing up.

“This procedure is for healthy individuals”

Well yeah. If you’re already infected, a vaccine will do jack

“You get better community protection if you don’t vaccinate for a disease ”

Well, you might get the emergence of strongly-resistant individuals. At the cost of how many needless deaths?

“least three times that vaccinations contain mercury”

Only multi-dose flu vaccines, IIRC, with optional single-dose. Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

Ahh, Murdoch. Is she doing a PhD for her Bachelor of Basket Weaving?

Global community, world travel people from other countries coming in wow for a academic this woman is just dangerous and you have heard it.

How did you contain yourself, omg

“You get better community protection if you don’t vaccinate for a disease – you won’t find evidence that lack of vaccination is harmful if you are not looking and she says the government isn’t looking.”

I love this one yes and we will all die the ones that are not dead might be immune.

“it is not prove that ingredients in vaccines are not causing the chronic illness in our kids”

It’s not proven that trees aren’t causing chronic illness – or wild energy released from opened bottles of homeopathic pills. Maybe if all those alt-pharma people, especially reiki masters, stopped messing with cosmic forces, chronic illness would go away forever. Is anyone researching this possibility? Why not?

What chronic illnesses is she talking about and does she have proof there’s even cause for panic?

I was trying to find out what Wilyman’s specialty is – it seems to be “environmental health”… at Murdoch. For some reason, that rings bells.

I wonder what she thinks about the Moletech Fuel Saver?

Frighteningly, she LECTURES at Murdoch.

I don’t know how you held your temper doused in all of that blather. I am a long time PICU nurse. I have cared for infants who died from pertussis, and some that we barely saved, that went home on oxygen and a tussive cough for 6 months. One of my co-workers caught pertussis from an infant with an atypical (septic presentation) and was out for several months with 2 fractured ribs (from coughing) and a persistent tussive cough. I have cared for measles pneumonia and Varicella encephalitis. H.Flu used to be my units bread and butter, until a vaccine was created. Most of the infants who survived, did so with brain damage. Merle Dorie needs to be charged with criminal recklessness, jailed and gagged, before more children die.

I’m a good touch-typer, so I just focused everything on taking notes on what she said. :/ I’ll see about getting more info out tomorrow.

I’m just curious, Judy Wilyman is continually referred to as “PhD Candidate”. Is she actually going for her PhD and if so does anyone know what for?

lisa June 3, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Not exactly sure Mike but she lecture(s?)(d?) in this unit.

I am a bit late commenting here but would like to add some info on “Dr” Wilyman – provided by David at http://scepticsbook.com/2010/06/02/the-avn-wa-library-lecture-becomes-a-political-bun-fight-but-who-wins/

“Judy Wilyman is a Ph.D student in environmental science at Murdoch University. Her supervisor is the Peter Dingle controversial, eccentric. His wife Penelope Dingle died of bowel cancer after allegedly “the Dingles had a pact with the homeopath treating Dingle, Francine Scrayen. Under the pact, they agreed that only alternative medicine would be used and Dr Dingle would then write a book about curing his wife’s cancer.” The State Coroner is investigating her death.”

So Judy Wilyman has negligible qualifications, is neither working in the medical or biochemical area, and is supervised by someone with a seriously eccentric approach. See the first link for more about what she has said previously.
