Happy Easter, Atheists! See You After The Holidays!

by podblack on April 4, 2010

This will be my last blog-post for a while! I’m taking a little holiday to catch up on some other projects (and yes, for a polychronic person like myself, I assure you I’ll be keeping busy)! I’ll re-post a few links to some of my classic blog-posts so you can check out my archives if you’re new to my site.

In the meantime? I’m certain that many of you have read the stories already. There’s quite a few, like:

“Thank God We’re Not All Atheists” says new Parramatta Archbishop:

Godlessness and secularism led to Nazism, Stalinism, mass murder and abortion, according to Anthony Fisher, the new bishop of Parramatta, who has used his inaugural Easter message to launch a scathing attack on atheism, while ignoring the sex abuse scandals besieging the Catholic Church worldwide.

Oh, and ‘Secular society fast track to loneliness’ -- funny, just when I’ve found all kinds of new contacts due to being at the GAC and enjoyed a weekend meeting with the Perth Atheists who are planning more social activities and helping formalise a new group for atheists nationally.

Atheists apparently don’t have charities either? Even though many of us openly promoted helping out groups like ‘Doctors Without Borders’ during the Haiti tragedy and news items like  ‘Atheists’ Collection Plate, With Religious Inspiration’ talk about groups like Foundation Beyond Belief and the CFI

Even the Young Australian Skeptics are under attack -- Andrew Bolt, ‘None so blind as the atheist who will not see‘:

Oh, and I can certainly say the video is NOT doctored -- I am the woman who is standing next to Prof. Richard Dawkins in this film. :)

In the meantime, Atheists hit back at clergy criticism of non-belief:

Mr Nicholls said atheists made contributions to society like any other citizen. “Atheists are not out to Stalinise or bring Nazism into the world,” he said. A spokesman for Dr Jensen denied a coordinated attack by the churchmen.

He said the remarks were likely to have been spurred by the recent Rise of Atheism conference held in Melbourne, which attracted 2,500 non-believers and featured renowned figurehead Richard Dawkins.

Even Christopher Hitchens speaks out:

I think I’ll leave the summary to Thinker’s Podium blog, from their post, “Thankyou Dr Jensen, Mr Pell, Mr Fisher – Happy Easter!“:

This is a win for secularism. Thanks to the credibility of Dr Jensen, Mr Pell and Mr Fisher, the issue – sectarian privilege and contempt over and toward atheists – is now out there in the mainstream; open for discussion. It was never was a fringe concern, and now for the first time, it really doesn’t look like one.

I really, quite sincerely, thank these men for sacrificing part of their holy weekend to make functional secularism (and the secular provision of welfare – thank you Mr Pell!) a hot topic. Couldn’t have done it without you, guys!

Dr Jensen, Mr Pell, Mr Fisher – Happy Easter!

As a “non-god-botherer” I have no intention of wasting my life proving or disproving the existence of a invisible, all-powerful(?) celestial puppeteer, who exclusively represents the interests of one particular (chosen) group of people be it Jews, Christians, Muslims, Mormons or …Scientologists.

The likes of Mr.Pell, Mr.Fisher or Mr.Jensen desperately peddling their infantile religious myths and superstitions lose the intellectual and MORAL battle with the 21 century reality…and they know it.

Their recent public utterings are a pathetic attempt to save the sinking ship of the organised religion. The religious bosses clumsily try to divert out attention away from their real (self-made I must add) problems: their blatant hypocrisy, social and cultural inadequacy and moral bankruptcy of their “god-given” dogmas in this day and age, dwindling numbers of their “flocks” , desperate shortage of the priests, mass sell-out of church property to name a few.
As virtually unemployable men elsewhere they desperately cling to their “jobs” in the religiou$ bu$ine$$. I am not overly surprised after all it is their livelihood, the only thing they have known throughout their adult lives. I can almost sympathise with them. I am more or less of their age and I certainly would not like to lose my job. I do not wish it to anybody.

I respect Torah, the Bible and the Quaran as a part of the humanity’s literary tradition as much as we respect the Hindu, Aztec, Greek or Roman mythology.
In my home library The Qur’an, The King James Bible, The Torah and even the Book of Mormon coexist peacefully, side by side with the works of Aesop, Andersen, Grimm Brothers, Perrault and La Fontaine.

One more thing…please do not call people like myself “non-believers”. I do believe in the power of education and free enquiry, universal values, human solidarity…and The Golden Rule.

P.S.
Mr.Pell’s, Mr.Jensen’s and Mr.Fisher’s knowledge of modern history is embarrassing to say the least. I say it in the name of my godmother – KL Auschwitz prisoner number 25541 who from 1941 to 1945 witnessed and experienced first hand “Christian compassion” of god-fearing genocidal psychopaths German and Austrian camp-guards (mostly Catholics) who shamelessly brandished their belt buckles with the inscription Gott Mit Uns. Later on during the “evacuation”/death march in the Gross Rosen KL she was guarded by their brothers- in-Christ fiercely Catholic Croatian ustashas. Ironically and miraculously my godmother was eventually liberated by the “godless” Russian soldiers.
Interestingly all mentioned religious leaders failed to mention a shameful role of Vatican in smuggling the nazi war criminals to South America. I do not expect the current pope to dig in The Vatican archives to investigate this matter.

Was not!! :p Actually, he was pretty cheeky afterwards, chastised me for laughing at him when he was checking out a fan’s YouTube homage to him.
“You’re LAUGHING at me, aren’t you!?” :p
