Where’s my head at? Somewhere. Right. Let’s see what’s happening.
- Thursday, 4th March - 2-4pm (exact time still to be determined) -- University of Western Australia at the Blakers Lecture Theatre in the Maths building. This will be a quasi-practice for the forthcoming Global Atheist Conference -- or at least a longer version of what I’ll present. I’ll see if I can record it for one of the podcasts.
Speaking of which…
- Sunday, 14th March -- Rise of Atheism Global Conference 2010: Convention topic -- Sex and Skepticism: a Study of Belief in Australian Women. I’m also the co-MC and I apparently get to open the show on Saturday? Stay tuned on that one!
That will a little different to what the majority of people at the conference will be talking about -- I’ll be pointing out that skepticism is not atheism, although there are overlaps. I’ll touch upon the research I’ve done (just had three hours in consultation yesterday, still working on finalising and refining the thesis -- the end is getting nearer!). A brief overview on how there are benefits on having a skeptical-world view, particularly as a woman.
Expect a little discussion of feminism and skepticism -- although I imagine that the likes of Taslima Naserin, Sue-Ann Post, Catherine Deveney and the like will more than adequately carry the torch in that regard. The panel of women on the Saturday (chaired by Maggie Millar featuring Lyn Allison, Tanya Levin, Leslie Cannold and Jane Caro), for example, will be a don’t-miss event.
- There’s also a forthcoming, much later presentation -- at the Glyde-in Community Group! More details as that gets closer, most likely talking about psychology, deception and the like. A bit of ‘quirkology’, as Dr Richard Wiseman would put it.
Oh, I have a BUNCH of interviews for the podcast that I’ve just done, some for Token Skeptic, some for the Skeptic Zone -- looking forward to getting those out, so expect some this week and some the next and then I’ll be far too into the Atheist convention prep and interviews to do much more for a while!
Finally -- this one is for Bridget, because she asked a question about tabulation on Twitter (excuse the French subtitles, or better yet, learn how to complain in another language!):
