You open your eyes and realise that you’re probably the only person awake in the city at this time, who is able to watch the Bolt Bridge from the bath.
Mind, the traffic is pretty good at 6.45am. Really quite beautiful lights. However, from the floor you’re on, probably the best featured element is ‘The Good Guys’ carpark. About fifteen floors below you. Nice big glass windows.
Brr, cold. Wear long-sleeved shirt, this day is going to be far too long to be worried about cold toes when you’re in the audience listening.
You’re starting off the show today – going to attempt to summarise the contribution of online activism to atheism and secular thought… very briskly. People are there to hear the likes of Phillip Adams, Russell Blackford (there’s the book you’ll be touting when you’re on the stage in the picture!), Max Wallace, John Perkins and (most exciting) Taslima Nasreen. Oh, and a shout-out to www.davethehappysinger.com.
Article out in The Age newspaper – ‘Atheist convention’s first secular success‘. You got to introduce PZ Myers to the crowd! Yes, the video has already probably gone viral, with crackers and Vegemite.
Could use some toast and Vegemite, come to think of it. Go on, print out your notes and go off in search of breakfast. Maybe you’ll find all those people you usually hang out at conferences with, rather than seeing them in the distance with canapes and drinks in their hands. Make note to self – today, actually eat proper dinner, rather than a handful of complimentary peanuts and a sandwich folded into a napkin that you saved from lunch. Gah… Actually, tonight’s the special dinner, catch up with as many people as you can then, yes! ![]()

Kylie, it’s the Bolte Bridge actually (named after a former – very – conservative premier of Victoria). I was at the convention today and you did a really wonderful job, BTW.

Wahh!! Blame early morning starts and cold wet fingers for losing an ‘e’.
Thanks! See you around tomorrow?
