More News On Global Atheist Convention – Official Program And Mind The Buses!

by podblack on March 2, 2010

Just a few items of possible interest:

Firstly, the Rise of Atheism program is now out at the official site: http://www.atheistconvention.org.au/program. AC Grayling will be happy; he spoke to some of my students tonight and was wondering when it was online!

I’m part of the opening with the very spiffing gentlemen David Nicholls and Stuart Bechman on the Friday and will open for Phillip Adams on the Saturday. Presentation on Sunday. Collapsing into a small styrofoam-cube shape on Monday morning, so I can fit into cargo-hold to be shipped back home ready to go to work on the Tuesday. Can’t wait!

In the meantime, the ‘Atheist Buses’ hit Melbourne just in time: New atheist bus campaign to coincide with global convention:

It’s a phenomenon that started in London late in 2008 and has since gone global: the atheist bus campaign. Buses with advertisements like, “There’s probably no God -now stop worrying and enjoy your life,” have already appeared all across Europe, the United States, Canada and elsewhere. The latest city to have such a campaign is Melbourne, Australia. APN Outdoors, the company that controls what appears on the sides of busses, intially refused to run the advertisements but Australian atheists persisted and currently 24 Melbourne busses now display the slogan, “Atheism – celebrate reason,” on their backs. The number will rise to 40 later in the month.

The campaign coincides with start of the 2010 Global Atheist Convention on March 12th. Tickets to the three day event, which will be held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, have been sold out for months.

After all of this, I’m exhausted, so will catch up with the blog later in the week.
