For the past few years (dotted in amongst my posts of YouTube videos and my complaints about doing the ‘Wireless Waltz’ in conference rooms waving my laptop around, trying to get AirPort to pick up a signal)… I have blogged about various research interests and referenced a few papers.
It’s good fun to keep track of what I read for future reference and it’s been a very useful way to post chunks of my research interests and keep up a regular word-count for my studies.
So, after the suggestion in an email that I get my blog sent in – here’s some details if you’d like to help nominate me for Research Blogging! In case you’re worried, it’s not like a Shorty Award nomination that will clog up your Tweets!
Just send in two links and that will do the trick.
The awards are very spiffy looking and I’d say that my site probably best meets categories like ‘Lay Blogging‘ or ‘Psychology‘ (or maybe ‘Funniest Blog‘, but results may differ… :p).
Some of the posts that I’ve suggested people check out already on Twitter include:
On Women, Paranormal Belief and When Yahoo Answers Wrong – this is a favorite of mine and was used in my literature review for my thesis!
The Ode Less Practiced: Ericsson and Charness-1994 / Fry 2005 - it’s actually good fun to link Stephen Fry to research what’s sometimes known as ‘blank page syndrome’.
Ninja Kittens Don’t Steal the Moon! Inspired by both a great question on moon myths and a cute ad with kittez.
Pet Ownership – Maybe Not For Better Health, Perhaps Sense of Humor? Features my cat as an example.
Perhaps you might like to read Ask Podblack: What Does Supernatural Mean? or Are U(FO) Dreaming of a Paranormal Christmas? or Year Of The Ox – Charming Tradition Or Load Of Bull? or Luck of the Irish (and Other Reasons to Avoid the Pub Today) which are a few fun ones directly linked to my research.
…and, of course, there’s Tell Me More About This Australian Thing Called Rooting. Which is in fact an interview with Dr Karen Stollznow, an author of the paper I cite at the end! Yes, language warning… but you might find it amusing. Do check out the criteria and DO nominate other great science blogs too!

Thanks for those links, I missed some of them before and it is like a best od PodBlack anniversary show. It was ducking great. Sorry, having trouble with the f key today. The cultural language taboos was especially enlightening. You have a way of making science art.
Thanks Paul!
I do think that I should probably go for ‘funniest blog’ – there’s just so many great science blogs out there but mine probably is the only one to link ninja kittens to moon myths… anyway, I’m glad you’re considering me and VERY happy that you enjoy reading them!
Oh – there’s also http://podblack.com/2009/07/ask-podblack-could-sex-sell-science/ – Could Sex Sell Science?
