Podcast on sports superstitions! People hiding cursed clothing underneath a stadium! Koalas entering the city in search for water before they take Manhattan and then Berlin! Okay, maybe not that last part.
I make a special mention at the end of this week’s Token Skeptic podcast episode, a nod to Sean the Blogonaut who reviewed my show! (whose interview should be featuring on the Skeptic Zone podcast – the other podcast I do). I also refer to the Skeptical Review site.
The Skeptical Review, if you haven’t checked it out yet, is really very clever and comprehensive. And I’m not just saying that because they cover both the SZ and the TS. By going over their listening schedule, they’re not only highlighting what they enjoyed and what they thought could be improved, they’re also introducing readers to new material, giving an overview about the concerns that the shows are covering and inspiring podcasters like myself on what dos-and-don’ts a listener might have. Sites like this and Sean the Blogonauts make the creators as well as the listeners reflect on quality.
Reviews overall are really important – they help boost the profile on ‘big name’ places like iTunes; they help us improve the shows, find ones that are similar which we might enjoy and reach more people. I’m still not convinced that podcasts are the ‘be-all-and-end-all’, because I rarely find young people who admit to listening to them. Yet the experience is invaluable in terms of using technology, working on presentation skills and networking. The podcasting track at Dragon*Con is an absolute joy too.
If you’re interested in a list of ‘what I listen to’, I wrote an earlier blogpost called Science And Skeptic Podcasts You Need To Hear and I hope you check out the Token Skeptic to help me improve too!

I had been itching to so a review of your show since episode two. I must admit though that I can’t use it for running, because I need to concentrate on your content and end up slipping. Perhaps a disclaimer -do not listen to while running on a treadmill or operating heavy machinery
I’ve been working on making it ‘lighter’, if that’s any help? Will do multi-part shows if there’s too much to tackle, I found my one on women/paranormal rather too much in content and will allow it to be a larger discussion rather than be too heavy!
I guess it comes down to what you are trying to achieve with the podcast ie is it a lead in to heavier research/reading.
Working on the balance between general information, research introduction and not just ‘preaching to skeptics’ with the topic, really. I find that not thinking that “everyone is ‘X’ ” is more fun when investigating the ideas raised.
