Just a quick late-night/very-early-morning-whip around for all of you keeping track of the ongoing Dore saga:
- Holford Watch, whose original complaint was upheld – ASA: Dore advert is “misleading” and breaches rules on “truthfullness” and “substantiation”.
- Brainduck’s blog is a MUST READ – it is astounding how much grace-under-pressure this blogger produces while keeping up with Dore’s shenanigans! Dore research ‘is rubbish’, but I still can’t tell you so:
So: the ASA agrees that Dore has no evidence to show it works, Dore themselves have pretty much taken their ball and gone home on the research issue, but because of Dore’s unfortunate tendency to reach for lawyers, Dr Rutherford’s admission that I’ve only not been sued yet because they can’t find me, and British libel law being pants (please sign their petition), then I still can’t put my real name to telling you so. This is a thoroughly unsatisfactory situation.
I’m sure you’ll hear from other ‘Translucent Science’ bloggers as the day goes on (e.g – Quackometer and Goldacre’s Bad Science) – I think it’s been a very good week for pro-science bloggers!
ETA – Holford Watch gives us: Dore media and blog coverage
