It’s all been run, run, run – I’m currently typing in the conference room as Tony Taylor, author of ‘Denial: History Betrayed’ talks about Windschuttle, Irving… and Mel Gibson as examples of historical denialists! We’re all getting the giggles about the boom in blue face-paint sales after Braveheart came out and a great breakdown of the 2000 film The Patriot. Great examples of the manipulation of people by the media.
What can I do to keep you up to date? Well, I have been live-tweeting (in fact, the podcaster and science teacher from the Hunting Humbug podcast Theo Clark will be talking at the end of the day about Twitter and wants us to be very active with it during his talk) and there’s a few video clips that I’ve managed to wrestle off my camera; I’ll post those later today.
Thanks to Gold, who has been brilliant company at this conference, you can check out a summary of the last night dinner on his blog – Skeptics in the Pub NZ! There you can read more about the Bent Spoon Award (yes, presented to the AVN and Meryl Dorey!) and the Fred Thornett Memorial Award presented to Toni and David McCaffery. They are the parents of four-week-old Dana McCaffery, who died from whooping cough in March.
In addition, the Young Australian Skeptics gang were nice enough to let me crash their show for a bit – check out their site for other vids:
