brandist Hungry Beast was bloody brilliant!!! I’ve never seen such a poignant picture of Australia’s refugees. GREAT
JOB GUYS!!!
So, I’ve been lax in keeping up with my Hungry Beast round-ups. Simply put, I’ve been busy for a sequence of Wednesdays and that pretty much means that I’ve been stuck trying to catch the online eps… and it’s all too much. Some of us work in between net-surfing, people! You can read earlier Hungry Beast television reviews here.
What remains the segment that I’m most interested in? Things That We Think Might Be Bullshit. That certainly has potential! However, it’s sometimes hit-and-miss in regards to how useful the content is in that segment, and I guess that applies to much of hte show. I’d love to be able to recomment it as a whole, but more often than not, I’ll enjoy parts but not the whole. Is it improving over time? I think I’m becoming accustomed to the patchwork-nature and after missing about two or three episodes, it’s more ’something I’ll catch if I remember it’s on’, rather than ’something I regret missing if I’m out’.
Have things changed much in tonight’s episode? No. I’m still seeing a lot of (oh noes!) language content (see above…) that sometimes detracts from the more serious issues. I’m occasionally enjoying what now appears to be a mandatory ’serious segment’ inserted half-way through the show (hence the refugees tweet at the start of this post) rather than tilting my head with a ‘uh, you expect me to change my mood that quickly after watching Victoria-very-uptight-comedy joke about a racist urine test?’
I’ve noticed less ‘Twitter commentary’ after every show? The quote I gave above was maybe one of a dozen, rather than one of several dozen that I used to scroll through with the hashtag #hungrybeast. The site has started up a forum board and started urging people to submit interviews that are not using copyrighted images and music – so clearly they’re hoping for more interaction.
What I really liked this episode was the pro-Gardasil segment, with pro-science and baggy-panted Daniel Keogh. He heads to the doctor to demonstrate some ‘caring about your wife and / or casual sex-buddy’ ( as I watched, I typed “oh dear holy hades, is Daniel about to have parts of his body burnt off on camera?!?”) He gets a $450 sequence of vaccinations, whilst pointing out some very comprehensive info about how people should be vaccine-proactive when it comes not not only preventing warts, but being aware of penis, anal and throat cancer for oneself as well as one’s partner.
You can find more info about ‘Gardasil for Guys‘ on their official site. Don’t forget to check out the earlier episodes, on their site – they’re also downloadable:

That was indeed a fantastic segment. I really think this show is starting to find its legs. Here’s to season two!
