This is mostly because one of my top five-fave musicians is Thomas Dolby. Remastered for 2009. Note, the video is still from 1982, yet you can see a ’steam-punk’ style even back then. Enjoy.

This has been one of my all-time favorite music videos since it was first released. This song has also been on my iPod since I first owned one years ago. I was surprised to learn that Thomas Dolby is the same Dolby who invented Dolby Digital Surround Sound. He’s quite the acoustic genius.
Oh – the Dolby Surround Sound is in fact a misnomer – “The “Dolby” nickname comes from the name Dolby Laboratories, and was given to him by school friends for his seemingly inseparable relationship with his cassette machine” according to Wikipedia? He is, however, very very well set due to his work with polyphonic ringtones! “More than 60 percent of all cell phones on the planet use some form of Beatnik, his pioneering software that allows for polyphonic ringtones.”
I suspect that Mr Dolby has even beaten George Hrab to the idea of having an astronomer appear on a song too? Have a listen to ‘Quantum Mechanic’, a song that features guest vocalist Dr. Fiorella Terenzi.
Love love love this song. And whenever I decide to join the current decade and get a real cell phone capable of MP3 ringtones, that synth violin intro to the “solo”(?) in the middle is on my phone.
