PodBlack Cat Blog

September And Beyond

by podblack on September 19, 2009

Due to a family health matter that looks like it’s going to continue for the next month and possibly beyond, blogging will be sporadic over the coming weeks.

I’ve written previously about deconstructing one of my posts and that is still on schedule, but I’m not entirely certain how active I’ll be after that. This pretty much happened within a day or so from returning from Dragon*Con, and although there’s been work to focus on and I can always find things to distract me day-to-day, I should start dividing my time a little more efficiently to begin to deal with what’s coming next.

For the past two to three years the situation has been recurring – the death of one relative from cancer and the rapid return of the same disease in another, to a greater extent every time. It’s escalated to the point that I’ve been in the hospital for pretty much every day this week and I don’t think that’s going to change much in the future. I don’t even think I can write about it in detail; I’ve found it difficult enough in the few emails sent or Skype chats I’ve had and there’s only so long I can distract myself with irrelevancies online.

What it has led me to do is to rethink a few plans for the future, including what activities and projects for 2010 and beyond. In the meantime, I’ll be working on what has to be completed in the short to medium term. Thanks to those subscribers who have boosted my site beyond my expectations over the past year or so, and I’ve made plans not to neglect this blog more than I can help. Suggestions about content are always welcome; the same applies for the podcast Skeptic Zone.

What usually helps? Keeping busy. I like being useful to people. Even if I can’t help, I can usually direct people towards those who might. Feeling powerless in the face of situations that appear overwhelming is not unfamiliar to me, so I do sympathise. Feel free to use the comment boxes, the email in my contact page for Podblack or the Twitter at podblackblog. I’ll try to do my best, and thanks for understanding.

:( Sorry to hear that. Hope things don’t get too stressful.

Most of this year has been hellish, in regards to my family health and wellbeing, watch out that you don’t continue to expect too much of yourself.

Oh and *hugs* as well :)

You’ll be missed. Best wishes for your personal situation.

I’ve enjoyed your blog since I stumbled across it many months ago. Take care of business first, but please don’t forget your fans when life gives you a chance to take a breather.

What can one say? Family and friends and more important than strangers reading a blog – and that’s all most of us are. You owe us nothing. Take all the time you need to cope with things as best you can and we’ll look forward to a full return to action if and when you’re ready.

All the best.

*hug* – thanks Andy, as you may have noticed, it hasn’t stopped me Twittering. :) I think being silly on Twitter helps some.

And I’ve gone and burdened you with more work! I’m sorry!

I also empathise with your current situation.

I’m always here for you…

No, no, Karen! I want to write, it’s something that has been on my mind for quite some time – so it’s a good opportunity. :) Thank YOU for thinking of me. :)

Alas I don’t Tweet (or even TXT) at all. And that’s a subject I might blog one day.

Oh, and not to distract you still more, but did you see the alcohol story link on YAS? It was interesting in that it summed up our blog posts – though with a somewhat contrary view.

Apparently “Drinking is an important social lubricant.”

Re: The Age article – I also notice they write:
“…alcohol is a key part of almost every adult social engagement held after 5pm. And for good reason.”
So, apart from personal opinion, that author has no stats or substance to support their claims whatsoever. Welcome to Australia, where ‘she’s right mate’ wins… :/
