I love being in NZ – I use Air NZ when traveling and have stopped off in Auckland a number of times when heading to the USA. This, however, is a brand-new find for me and I seriously hope that other conferences will follow the New Zealand Skeptics example! They just had their conference, held in Wellington from the 25th to 27th September and whilst poking about to find out how it went, I found the following site.
Science Media Center – ‘Our aim is to promote accurate, bias-free reporting on science and technology by helping the media work more closely with the scientific community‘ is what their site says. What their site features now? Audio of the recent NZ skeptic conference!
It includes Australian Loretta ‘Jellybean Lady’ Marron, with “Undercover for Cancer” (don’t forget, she’ll be at the Brisbane conference too and her presentations are an absolute don’t-miss – if you’ve ever been interested in activism and advocacy, you’ll learn a lot from her). There’s Matthew Dentith, whose PhD work on conspiracy theories I’ve had my eye on for a while – his presentation is “The Slippery Slope of Conspiracy Theories”.
