PodBlack Cat Blog

Okay, Yes, My Profile Photo Is Updated…

by podblack on August 29, 2009

Sometimes I look at the statistics for my blog. Not very often, mostly just to get a laugh at the search terms that people use to find the site. I even did a YouTube video once about it all – “Got Pussy?” Popular Search Terms That Lead You To Podblack.com.

Today, however, people seem to be checking out en masse the new photo that I put up in the page called “About Podblack Cat – Contact Me“.

Ack.

Blog stats now indeed indicate that it’s just as Tim Minchin sings: you can put hours of creative and intellectual content into a blog post and people would rather check out your ‘YouTube vid of kittens’. Or in my case, what you look like wearing a Wheels and Dollbaby shirt. Support Australian fashion designers, people!

Why is there a new photo? Because I’m one of eight or so people ‘headlining’ a conference next year (when the site is all ready to go, I’ll link to it, don’t worry) which required a formal photo. Something to do with promotional materials, all that kind of thing.

Insert shuffling bewildered bashfulness and sense of needing to get-something-written-months-ahead-in-advance here along with everything else that I have to sort out for the rest of the coming month and beyond.

Oh, that’s another shot, by the way. Second favourite. You have no idea how incredibly poncy this makes me feel, since most of the time I write this blog wearing my pilates workout getup at some absurd hour of the morning (time check in question? 4.53am when I started this post). I feel like I now have to lift my dress standards just to open the laptop case. Ack again.

By the way – new Skeptic Zone episode out – interview with Leanne Rucks about Philosothon, Philosophy in Schools and the Philosophy and Ethics course in this state which is revolutionising how critical thinking is taught to high-schoolers.

… which is something else I’m involved with when not trying to angle for the light or feeling like I’ve wandered into auditioning for Australia’s Next Top Something Offensive (yes, do check out Bland Canyon/ Petstarr’s blog, it is hilarious!).

While I’m not going to be doing the ‘signing thing’ (Are you kidding?? I leave that to the likes of Richard Saunders and Dr Rachie, who’ll have copies of those wonderful shots that you also saw in progress on the YouTube ‘documentary’ called ‘Skeptic Zone Photo Shoot in Perth‘), you can certainly spot me around at Dragon*Con, looking slightly less monochrome than the earlier photo that was on display in my profile. I’ll be the one giving Richard and Dr Rachael the sharpie when you ask for their autograph. Which is absolutely fine by me!

Speaking of which, the overall program for Dragon*Con is now out: Pocket Program and Schedule Grids. Head to the Dragon*Con site and you can see the schedule. I’ll make a summary of it later, with all the Australian appearances (well, the Skeptic Zone ones) on this site.

So much coolness afoot in Australia coming up, I would love to be able to join my fellow skeptics. I would also want to have your autograph, btw.

Great photos, btw. My compliments to the photographer. Of course, it always helps photography when the subject is charming.

I always look at my blog stats – it’s what I use as my home page.

40 hits yesterday, 34 the day before that, best day so far this month 81, worst so far 23, total for July 1145, with August looking to be in much the same ballpark. Got a search yesterday for “stuff eating stuff in the human body”.

I have a feeling you’re a little more popular.

*snorfle* – my autograph looks like a dead spider. Years of having to sign off on every student assignment before handing it back has resulted in a ‘splat’ effect.

Wow. That second shot looks like something Rembrandt would have done had he access to a camera.

Not as hot as it would be with you.
