PodBlack Cat Blog

Ask Podblack – What Is Podblack Anyway?

by podblack on July 21, 2009

Heh. In case you don’t know, I have a dedicated Twitter account for people asking questions which I’ll answer on this site – Podblackblog on Twitter.

There’s also the option of my About Podblack Cat – Contact Me link in the banner at the top of the page and you can subscribe via the Subscribe RSS feed link on the top right hand side too.

Right now it is… 6.29am and I’ve been awake since about 5.30am-ish. Turned off the computer around 12.10am last night. This morning. Whatever.

Whatever ‘Podblack Blog’ is, it is clearly written by either / both an insomniac or a busy person who gets a lot more done in the mornings before everything else gets going. A nod to Mur Lafferty who discusses the practicality of such a practice – I was greatly influenced by a co-worker, who was the Head of Media Studies, who pointed out that you could have free reign of the photocopier, could use the boardroom table for sorting out your paperwork and even could use two computers at the same time when everyone else was still snoring for the next hour and a half.

That isn’t answering the question though.

Right now I’m going to find a coffee.

Hey, I said it was early in the morning and I get things done during this time – I didn’t say I was going to be coherent.

Where was I?

On the Australian Atheist Forum board, I introduced the name ‘Podblack’ this way:

Podblack is a range of children’s fragrances perfumes
Podblack is like a day without sunshine
Podblack is that there are at any time about twenty to fifty around a plant
Podblack is adjustable
Podblack is opinionated
Podblack is made of polyresin and finished with a bronzelike effect that is suitable for use outdoors as well as indoors
Podblack is a successful move into more mainstream territory
Podblack is not a game as you might expect it
Podblack is a great “stress reliever”
Podblack is all done with hand stitching
Podblack is believed to be the most cunning of all
Podblack is one of countless instances illustrating experts and issues are ultimately ignored by the public
Podblack is from the twelfth century and later
Podblack is the love of dancing
Podblack is positively dreamy
Podblack is kneeling with her eyes closed
Podblack is available in bookstores or can be ordered directly on this site for the price of
Podblack is dramatically different than the Irish perception
Podblack is a graphic web site and may load slowly
Podblack is made of light blue glass bead
Podblack is also sold out and retired
Podblack is surprisingly convincing
Podblack is made out of pipe cleaners

That may very well screw up my Google Analytics well beyond repair. Image Search for the name ‘Podblack’ is quite misleading and tending towards the downright kinky.

Podblack is the name of this website. It originally began its origins as a site for a podcast that never eventuated (but I ended up working for Richard Saunders with the TANK vodcast and the Skeptic Zone podcast anyway, so I guess I contributed something in the end).

The first photo is of my cat’s ‘pod’, which she sleeps in, behind the couch. It is actually a coincidence that she is a black cat who has her very own ‘pod’-like bed. Which happens to be in the shape of a black cat. Which, for a while, was being used by another cat, until she decided that she wanted her own defensible little area behind the couch. Eh, being rather fussy about personal space myself, I can relate.

The second photo is of the cat herself. Her name is Xena Warrior Princess.

No, I didn’t choose that name myself. Shut up.

However, I did originally intend to have a black cat as a logo for the site and have maintained that.

The ‘Cat Girl with the Zener Cards‘ that you can see in the box up the top of my blog (and on the right) is by Michael McRae. You can see more of his artwork on the Digital Cuttlefish site and in the Science By Email mailout by the CSIRO – all three of us are very good friends, although we have all yet to be photographed together as a trio. There does exist, I believe, one photo where we are all in a group. We have all met in person before, but at different times and places. Sometimes I think things would be quite dreadful if it wasn’t for their existence, even in a virtual sense.

Yes, her body is modeled on mine – I took a photo of myself on the couch in that position and sent it via email and this is what I got back. No, it is not biologically accurate. I am very fond of it though.

What else? I don’t call myself ‘Podblack’, but I don’t mind if I’m referred to as such. It’s more the name of the website, really.

I have finished this coffee, I have dabbled about on Twitter, I have checked my empty email in-box and now I’m going for a run. Feel free to ask more questions via Twitter or in the links provided in my About page.

… shut up about the ‘warrior princess’ bit, that cat can fold down her ears flat into her skull for ‘attack mode’ faster than you think.
