Today Simon Singh announces that he is applying to appeal the judge’s recent pre-trial ruling in this case, in conjunction with the launch of this support campaign to defend the right of the pubic to read the views of scientists and writers.
In a statement published today, over 100 people from the worlds of science, journalism, publishing, comedy, literature and law have joined together to express support for Simon and call for an urgent review of English law of libel.
The law has no place in scientific disputes – we the undersigned believe that it is inappropriate to use the English libel laws to silence critical discussion of medical practice and scientific evidence.

Signed & badge added to blog. When I get a chance will do up a post (at work atm).
I’ve signed and added the button to Homologous Legs. Will perhaps write a post about it today.
I wish countries or someone would rally to cure the source of the problem: English libel laws.
Someone could probably make money by setting up a country Libelania where the government controls all publishing and will (for a hefty fee) publish any work you want, which will allow you to sue the author in Libelania courts (which deal harshly with libelous scum). Is such a farce needed to expose this injustice?
Actually, I got news today of something BIG that is going to happen. Stay tuned – the Skeptic Zone will be a significant part of it! I’ll see if I can send you something from it too…
Oh come on now – you can’t say that and then just walk away.
Tell us more! Come on, we can keep a secret.
Oh, it’s all in planning at the moment. WILL be over East, though. But as soon as things are getting moving, we’ll see how soon.
But I hope that I can at LEAST get Richard Saunders and Dr Rachael Dunlop to Perth this year? That’d be cool.
A bit further south would be nice. There’s a nice haunted jail near here they could visit.
So is that what it takes to get the team to come to your door. Hmmm
Takes organisation! It’d be cool if we were all closer, but eh. I’m just so glad that Melbourne went so damned well and the YAS team were so absolutely wonderful. You can hear the shout-out on the most recent Geologic podcast.
