Why Is Science Important? Video Series Now Out!

by podblack on March 14, 2009

I get email!

Why is science important? -- A collection of thoughts from leading scientists, public figures, …and you.

I am a British science teacher who runs a “collaborative” blog project at www.whyscience.co.uk which seeks to find meaningful, satisfying answers to the question “why is science important?’ I’d be most grateful if you would take a look and pass on the link to anyone else who might be interested, particularly other teachers.

It starts off with Science Teacher Alom Shaha, walking across hot coals to demonstrate how easy it is to do. He then briefly explains the simple science behind it and why such knowledge can be useful to you!

You can see the entire sequence of fourteen ‘Why Science?’ films here on Youtube as well as the official site which features the film ‘Why Science?’ in its entirety (including contributions by the likes of Dr Phil Plait, Dr Susan Blakemore, A.C. Grayling, Prof. Marcus du Sautoy and much more!).

Brilliant thanks for the heads up. I do like the one from Sue blackmore “Truth is better than illusion”, I have both a cousin and an Aunt that would argue against that one…I never understand them.

Ooh I watched Tim Minchin live last night. Unbelievable…the guy is f**ng brilliant. Comic genius.
