Got Tim Minchin Australian Tour Tickets Yet?

by podblack on October 14, 2008

Well? Have you? I admit, I’ve been flat out with Philosophy and Ethics meetings and work (Monday – PD training course; Tuesday – consultation meeting; Wednesday – touching base for the next leg of research; Thursday – see if friends remember I’m alive and Friday – graduation for my former students!).

But I’m not missing out on the following events and here’s the info so you’re fully Minchin-ready too!

Here’s a Time Out review of his show that’ll be touring in 2009: ‘Ready For This’:

“Not only is he one of the funniest, most intelligent and most thought-provoking comedians I’ve seen in a long time, he is a breathtakingly talented pianist and his exquisite ‘Nine Minute Beat Poem’, the climax to his latest show, would have made Ginsberg weep with joy and warm the cockles of Lawrence Ferlinghetti’s heart.”

Tim Minchin: interview

First – the release of Two Fists, One Heart on the 23rd October – a West Australian film with Tim Minchin as a minor character:

TWO FISTS ONE HEART is a contemporary family drama set in Perth, Western Australia. The central character is Anthony Argo, a champion amateur boxer and nightclub doorman in his early twenties. His pursuit of Australian “la dolce vita” increasingly puts him in conflict with his father and trainer, Joe, who has brought his Sicilian values of family, loyalty and iron-fisted respect with him to Australia.

Anthony falls for smart and beautiful university student, Kate, who opens his eyes to a world beyond his boxing-obsessed upbringing and fuels further rebellion against his father’s values. Anthony starts to question many of the beliefs he has taken for granted; in particular whether violence is the ideal way to resolve conflict.

THEN – you’re ready for the release of the documentary, aren’t you? Rock and Roll Nerd? Check your local indie cinemas for the details, but here they are from the official site: http://www.rocknrollnerd.com/screenings. And remember, for Perth, I’ve already reported that it’s out from Thursday, 30th October.

Then – if you’re missing that – check out the upcoming Enough Rope with Andrew Denton on ABC TV on the 27th October!

Tim MinchinOriginally from Perth, Tim Minchin has taken his exceptionally clever musical comedy shows across the globe. The self-proclaimed rock-n-roll nerd discusses peace anthems, hair straighteners and the mathematics of finding a wife.

Finally – selling now! The tickets for the 2009 tour! BOCS Ticketing Tickets are on sale now! 30th April & 2nd May at the Perth Concert Hall.

As always, many thanks to the wonderful, suave style-kitties of Angry Feet forum board for being first off the mark (and sitting front row with me on the night of the show – you guys rock).

Hey! I’m georgie from angry(feet) :)

A lovely Tim-oriented blog! I found it while randomly searching the web :P But a couple of things:

The release date for Two Fists, One Heart is a bit up in the air… us on angry(feet) found two different websites each with very different dates! One was the 23rd of Oct (as you’ve said above) but the other said the 12th or March next year! Unless you’ve heard any more about it than what’s just on websites?

Also, the link you gave for the Rock N Roll Nerd screenings is no longer working… I think Rhian must have removed that page on the site (though I’ve no idea why! :S)

I’m one of the lucky ones with front row seats to see Timmy in Perth! So I guess I’ll see you there! :D

Hmm. What I’ll do is phone the theatre tomorrow, then post up my findings on the Angry Feet forum blog. If there’s a change – I’ll alert it everywhere! :)

Second… hmm, not working? Never mind, I have an earlier list, somewhere, so I’ll post that up instead. And yes, front row! I’ll hope that someone else gets the ‘audience participation callout’ bit if he does one, I’m far less funnier than most in person! :/

Right – ‘Screenings’ indeed seems to have gone!

is the next best bet for people – and like I did for a person in Hobart, I’d suggest contacting your local indie cinema and asking if they’re planning on screening it?

AND… more news, thanks to AFF – http://www.palmbeachpictures.com.au/home/film-catalogue/two-fists-one-heart

“Jessica, like Tim Minchin who plays her brother Tom in the film, both hail from Perth.
Tim Minchin’s involvement began after David Elfick saw him perform at an inner city club. The material was topical modern, and socially aware. David approached Tim to create a character who could open up Anthony’s world from the tough ethnic suburban life he knew. Making this character Tom brother of Anthony’s love interest Kate gave the story a clear and economic narrative.”

“…Tim Minchin performs two original songs in the film.

Tim plays the part of Tom, a musician with a quick wit. He composed ‘Drowned’ and ‘I’m Not Going Anywhere’ with lyrics that illustrated this clever and confident aspect of the character. The songs also serve to open a new world to Anthony ( Daniel Amalm) and lead into the amusing dialogue that begins their friendship.

Tim recorded the tracks in Perth with Dan Minchin ( his brother), Robbie Lumsden and Joshua Jones who appear as the on stage band in the film.”
