September Skeptics Of Carlos – Haiku Edition!

by podblack on September 14, 2008

Today, oh venerable readers, I was sent the following news item: Japanese call on deities to discipline wayward PCs -

Anti-virus software usually does the job, but if malicious code gets through then it can bring your PC to its knees. So a Japanese shrine’s resorted to a rather more unorthodox way of keeping viruses and bugs from damaging laptops.

According to a report by website IOL, the Kanda-Myojin Shinto shrine has begun allowing “the faithful” to bring their laptops into the holy temple in order to have their laptops “blessed”. Priests are said to use centuries-old ceremonies to ask the gods to protect supplicants’ PCs.

Therefore, subscribers, I now urge you to read the following posts for this edition of the Skeptics of Carlos Blog Carnival, to help purge your reading habits of nonsense, scams and those little emails that say ‘I decided to will to you the sum of six million, five hundred thousand dollars) to you in order to investigate the conspiracy of Bootfoot‘!

My sincere apologies for the delay as this was meant to be out on the thirteenth of the month – clearly I paid in traveler’s cheques instead of Yen for my server-cleansing.

First, an account of a journey far away, that puts even the orient-fantasy tale Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart to shame:

Skepbitch tells us of

Skeptic Australians win;

Kept to the word count.

Next, closer to home but just as piquant as wasabi, an account of internet-issues that will have you throwing Senzaburo Tachibana’s translated copies of The Origin of Species at the screen:

Homologous Legs

Tells the CreationWiki

‘Just don’t get Hendry’.

Coming into range like Chodenji Robo Combattler V on a triple-power-combo is this eye-watering entry:

Skelliot ain’t fooled

Iridologist just has

Hangover red eyes.

Breaking down bad to find the lack of truth behind trash media, this is one translation job that you must read:

Smarts of Scepticon -

Rates magazine’s scum-sucking

(Medium so small).

Last of all, we have a story that rivals the anime legend of Atom Man – or at least makes you wish there was some intelligence behind the machinations of tales that get told:

Buy some brains for the

YEC and Ray Comfort -

‘Cause Thinking Is Real.

Thanks so much to all the blogs who entered – admittedly a short edition this time due to all the work I’ve been up to this month, so it’s great to recap on your wonderful work! The Skeptics of Carlos will be back on the 13th October and looking forward to more then!

Bravo!!! Love the intro story about blessed PCs…

Bootfoot gave me a great guffaw!

Now I’m hungry for sushi…there was a nice looking little place around the corner from the hotel that we never ended up trying!
