Atheism, Faith, Skeptics, Education And The Media

by gazza666 on July 19, 2008

Okay, right, it’s the weekend -- and I’m blogging. Bleah. Never mind, I’ve got a lot of work on the horizon and I’ll zip off and complete it instead of writing much more on all of this. But I have to pop up some links and tidy up my blogroll first!

First -- an mp3 that is wonderfully produced by Protium mp3 is up -- of me! Gosh. Thanks to the Perth Atheists, here I am talking about the intersection (and when there isn’t one) between skepticism and atheism. And how there are certain issues within education that should concern people regardless of what ‘flag’ they wave.

Belief in Weird Things! (35MB 40mins MP3) - Recent Developments and Educational Directions. A look at research into belief of the paranormal and pseudoscientific and how teachers and others can contribute to rational thinking.

The Perth Atheist Meetup details are here and I know that they are all set to attend the Dr Michael Shermer tour later this year (I’ll be in London at the time -- but will be working for Skepticality at Dragon*con, so I’ll be well and truly ‘skeptic-ed’ regardless)! Sign up and get talking to the gang!

And finally -- I have to broadcast about the broadcast featuring a NSW attendee of the Sydney Skeptics in the Pub (who also took the very long trek over to Las Vegas for the Amazing Meeting)! This, ladies and gentlemen, is a recently broadcast interview with young people on their faith for World Youth Day, including Alan Conradi of Critical Mass Blog putting the atheist point of view. An account of what it was like being on the show is blogged here -- ‘Breakfast TV Atheism’!

Since I’m in the process of writing up something on the interaction of faith with skepticism, I’m very much in favour of dialogue -- so check it out!
