Right – a couple of hints for the future of US-produced TV viewing! One seems great ‘in the vein of Psych‘ news, the other seems to be yet another example of paranormal-induced hysteria… *sigh*.
Hopefully this comes out on DVD like the aforementioned Psych, so I can watch it too: The Mentalist!

CBS has picked up its first post-strike pilot, The Mentalist, a crime drama about a mentalist who uses his mad skillz to help police solve crimes. Speaking to the Eye’s faith in the project, veteran director David Nutter — whose pilot creds include Supernatural, Traveler, and most recently Sarah Connor Chronicles — is in talks to direct the script penned by Rome cocreator Bruno Heller
In comparison, The Ex-List promotes this sort of plot…
Bella Bloom (Elizabeth Reaser), an attractive 30-something successful business owner is surprised to learn from a psychic (Anne Bedian) that she’s already dated her future husband AND there’s a catch: if she doesn’t find him in the next year, she’ll remain alone forever.
What the?? Oh great. Great. Paranoia, one’s self-esteem dependent on getting a partner and shock-horror – everything she’s achieved will mean bugger-all in the wild-goose-chase. Sure, fiction. But sheesh…
I’m in the process of writing up some teaching guides for a few good TV Drama shows and documentaries and I assure you, unless The Ex-List somehow moves beyond a retrograde Ally McBeal-like morass of ‘modern, intelligent woman goes bananas over men’ (sparky sidekick who turns out to be right about ‘it’s all manipulative garbage’?) – it’s Ex-Cretion.
