Ah, Melbourne. Considered the ‘Arts Capital’, the ‘Comedy Capital’ – now going to have telepathy as street-theatre and I’m not entirely certain if it’s a mixture of both ‘capitals’ at once… from The Age:
… The Telepathy Project, presented by performance artists Veronica Kent and Sean Peoples in the front windows of the Forum Theatre over five days from May 20. Kent and Peoples, who will be sealed in isolated rooms, will attempt to communicate telepathically with each other and the passing Flinders Street audience, and write or draw what they “receive” on post-it notes stuck to the window. The two met at art school, and have been attempting to communicate telepathically ever since.
Well, I guess it could have been useful for examinations. Did they tell the invigilator, so they could have separate papers set?
Mind, I’m more favorable towards something like the Band In A Bubble Project by Regurgitator. Will they consider getting someone to properly tally up WHEN someone thinks something and it is actually produced? Otherwise, just writing lots and lots of random words pinned up, like ‘penguin!’, ‘motor boat!’, ‘poo!’ and ‘Eliza Dushku in the Dollhouse Trailer on Youtube!’ is bound to get a hit with someone at some point…
“Every night for the past three years we’ve put aside half an hour, in our separate houses, and tried to communicate telepathically with each other. Then we go online and compare,” says Kent.
“A lot of the time we’re drawing a long bow, but there have been a few occasions where it did uncannily work. At the end of one session I felt compelled to go and drink a litre of milk straight from the fridge, which I never do. It was kind of disgusting. I usually sit there with a glass of red wine. But when I went online he’d been sending me ‘milk’.”
Nice guy. All I get is my partner on Skype sending ‘Nude! Nude, nude, nude, nude, nude!’ Yes, it works – no, I’m not doing street-theater with it.
You can check their show out as a part of the 2008 Next Wave Festival and is on at the Forum Theatre from May 20 to 24, 4.30-8.30pm.
…And if a certain skeptic in Victoria with the initials ‘SR’ goes to the show and thinks ‘NUDE!’ at them and it works, I do NOT want photos emailed to me, got it? Ick.
