Little Kitten – Seriously SETI!

by podblack on April 2, 2008

I love SETI. I still allow my computers (SETI@home) to merrily search for extra-terrestrials (or any useful items they might pick up whilst crunching away during down-time) after installing the program a few years back. It might not be Ellie of Contact, but eh. Does its part. And here’s a great video, just released!

Is anyone out there? For over 40 years scientists have been searching for extraterrestrial intelligence, but they’ve found nothing. Now the new Allen Telescope Array, a string of 350 radio telescopes, is being built 300 miles north of San Francisco and is breathing new life into the search. Find out why SETI scientists now say we might be hearing from ET sooner than you think.

Have a click on this pic and you can go to a new video just released on the Allen Telescope Array! Very well produced, no-nonsense sort of production. Good work! One of these days, I hope to go to a similar array out here in Australia – come on SKA! New release on the conference in WA here, thanks to ScienceNetwork WA:

The conference features research by Australian and international astronomers on SKA-related science projects including WA’s $100 million SKA pathfinder project being built by CSIRO at the proposed SKA site at Boolardy station 300km north-east of Geraldton.

The meeting will be attended by more than 160 scientists who will provide progress reports on different aspects of the SKA project in which WA has invested serious money, time and thought into the long-term benefits to Australian industry, education and science.

I sometimes look out on that vast sea of electromagnetic waves and wonder the same thing.

I can’t wait until the array is finished.
